“Sperm donor with cancer-causing gene”[1]
A headline to strike fear into those who have used IVF to assist in conceiving a child. The content of this article provides some explanation of the investigation into the European wide use of donor sperm for artificial insemination, and the problems faced when a donor is either not completely screened for genetic mutations, or overused as a donor.
Errors in UK IVF clinics rarely lead to claims for clinical negligence, although they can occur, for example, as in here[2], and here[3] or abroad[4].
If you have undergone negligent IVF or genetic treatment or advice our Dr Darren Conway PhD can assist. Prior to becoming a solicitor specialising in clinical negligence he was a molecular geneticist. He worked at the Institute of Neurology in London, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, working on research projects specifically on inherited neurological conditions.
