Helping those with a rare disease

Saturday 28 February 2026 is ‘rare disease day’ and will help shine a light on the advances in research to help those 300 million people worldwide that are living with a rare disease.

Rare diseases are defined as those that affect fewer than 1 in 2,000 people. Nearly ¾ (72%) of them are genetic diseases. More than 6,000 rare diseases have been identified, including some cancers.[1]

There are a number of research projects around the world trying to identify the basis of new diseases, and ways of helping those children affected. By way of example, in the UK there is the 100,000 Genomes project[2]

Although rare the specific condition can have a major impact on the individual, and their family.

Sadly, sometimes, errors are made by a delay in diagnosis, a delay in treatment or trying an incorrect treatment, leading to additional problems for those affected.

Not all problems are the result of clinical or medical negligence. However, some are and so if you feel that you or a loved one suffered an injury as a result of medical negligence then please contact us if you wish to discuss your potential claim for compensation.

Our expert Medical Negligence team consists of dedicated specialists with many years of experience in bringing successful claims for medical negligence for those who have suffered negligently caused injuries.
