A man who fell into the path of traffic when the seat clamp of his bicycle broke has succeeded in obtaining compensation for the injuries he suffered.

The accident occurred in April 2011, when Matthew Buck was returning from a shopping trip. The seat clamp of his bicycle broke and he lost his balance and fell. He landed in the road, with his left leg trapped, and an oncoming car narrowly avoided hitting him.

He sustained a neck injury, which took 11 weeks to recover from and he was also left with cuts and bruises. He experienced flashbacks following the accident, had trouble sleeping for more than a month afterwards and was unable to carry out basic domestic chores, drive or socialise for two weeks. Had he been hit by oncoming traffic, he could have been much more seriously injured.

Mr Buck commenced a claim for compensation for his injuries. The retailer who sold him the bicycle and its distributor denied liability for his accident but agreed to pay him damages of £1,500.
